Description
• Explores the geological history, Celtic folklore, and spiritual traditions of one hundred minerals of the British Isles, each profiled with their metaphysical properties and intuitive voices
• Reveals integral practices for collecting, cleansing, and working with stones as spiritual companions, drawing on divinatory folk practices, Druidic, and Indigenous traditions
• Offers guidance for meditation, ceremony, and altar building, grounded in scientific understanding and Celtic-Gaelic heritage
For the Indigenous peoples of the British Isles, crystals and minerals were never inert matter; they are living presences, teachers, and soul companions. Melanie Godfrey recovers that relationship by combining geology, Celtic animism, and Druidic tradition in a guide to the mineral kingdom of Britain and Ireland.
The author profiles one hundred mineral species, from three-billion-year-old Lewisian gneiss to rare Cornish liroconite, integrating geological data with the metaphysical properties and intuitive first-person voice of each stone as received through meditative practice. Drawing on animistic philosophy and the concept of the anam cara (soul friend) she grounds the work in rigorous historical and scientific context alongside Celtic spiritual heritage.
Godfrey guides you through purification techniques, such as the traditional Scottish practice of saining (blessing), and offers meditations as well as instructions for sacred ceremony and altar-building to honour and connect with the minerals and crystals of the British Isles.
