Description
• Explains the philosophical foundations of the aethyr and pneuma to clarify Dee’s angelic and Enochian magic
• Integrates Neoplatonic, Hermetic, Chaldean, and Renaissance sources to map the Thirty Aethyrs as a workable visionary system
• Presents step-by-step sigil, breath, and dream practices for engaging the aethyrs and their angelic governors in magical workings
Drawing on decades of research and practice, Robert Podgurski presents an approach to John Dee’s aethyrs as a path for magical work. He grounds Dee’s angelic system in the currents of Neoplatonism, Hermeticism, and Renaissance philosophy, clarifying how the aethyr and pneuma function within Dee’s angelic conversations. He also shows how Dee’s engagement with Ficino, Synesius, the Chaldean Oracles, and Proclus shaped Dee’s understanding of pneuma, the imaginal faculty, and Enochian magic.
The author describes the Thirty Aethyrs as spherical levels of consciousness, each associated with angelic governors. He details how Dee’s diagrams, tables, and Monas Hieroglyphica encode this system and can be read as manuals for theurgy. Showing how phantasia operates as an inner mirror for visionary contact, Podgurski explains the role of dreams, symbols, and hypnagogic states in receiving impressions from the aethyr. Through detailed passages reproduced from his journals, Podgurski demonstrates by example his application of these methods.
Podgurski shows how to work with aethyric sigils, including the foundational Grid Sigil and Aeonic Grid. He gives breathwork exercises for accessing the aethyrs, along with chakra-focused meditations and dream practices for contacting aethyric intelligences. You will learn how to work with the Enochian Calls and the governors of the Thirty Aethyrs, and how to integrate these operations into an ongoing magical practice.
