OVERVIEW
Growing up in postwar Los Angeles, Marina Muhlfriedel always sensed there was more to the world than what could be seen. A fiercely imaginative child captivated by stories, music, and the mysteries that linger just beyond everyday life, she would go on to build an extraordinary creative career spanning rock bands, filmmaking, writing, advertising, and the ever-changing landscape of Hollywood. But beneath the adventure lies a far more intimate story—one of family, devastating loss, enduring love, and the search for meaning through decades of reinvention.
Born on Sunset is a beautifully told memoir that traces Marina's life from the neighborhoods of 1950s Los Angeles to the creative explosion of Southern California's music and film industries. Along the way she encounters unforgettable artists, lifelong friendships, unexpected mentors, and moments of profound joy, while navigating heartbreak, the death of her young son, the evolution of an unconventional marriage, and an enduring spiritual curiosity that reshapes how she understands memory, grief, and hope.
Rich with humor, wisdom, and vivid storytelling, Born on Sunset is both a love letter to Los Angeles and a meditation on what it means to create a meaningful life. Blending the intimacy of literary memoir with the energy of a coming-of-age story set against decades of cultural change, Marina Muhlfriedel offers readers an unforgettable journey through art, resilience, and the beautiful unpredictability of being alive.
